Old and New Wedding Trends to Consider For Your Big Day

Weddings have been around for a long time, and there have been some traditions that have stayed with us today while other traditions have retired for the newer generations to introduce their takes on a wedding day.

Over the years couples have been having traditional weddings, newer weddings, and a combination of the two. Here are some wedding trends that you should consider trying for your big day.

Morning Weddings

Have you ever been to a morning wedding? Chances are you haven’t, weddings typically start in the afternoon and then go into the night with dinner and the reception. However, morning weddings have been on the rise.

For starters, morning weddings usually end up being a little cheaper so you can save money and put it somewhere else, like your honeymoon! Morning weddings are usually held between 10 am and noon and are followed by a wedding reception and lunch. Just make sure you pick a good date where everyone will be awake and alert in the morning, don’t forget to go to bed early!

It is also important to note that a morning wedding will mean a very early day for you. You will have to be up to make sure everything is ready and you look good for your big day.

With morning weddings, it will be easier to find a venue for your special day and you will be able to have a unique wedding morning and ceremony. Plan accordingly with your food and switch up your options to be more lunch-themed.

Write Letters To Your Partner

This is more of an older tradition. The night before your wedding day, brides and grooms will both write a letter to each other. The letter can be about whatever you want, but the general idea is to show your partner how much you love them.

This tradition has gotten less popular over the years since people don’t write letters as often anymore. However, having a physical letter for you to hold on to, remember, and re-read over the years will be a special moment from your wedding that you will love to have as a keepsake.

Keeping this in mind, write something for your partner that they will like to look back on. It could be reflecting on all your good times, describing the moment you first fell in love, looking back on your first date, or anything else about you as a couple.

If you want, you can also make the letters part of the wedding ceremony and read them for guests to hear.

Unplugged Wedding

An unplugged wedding is when a couple has their wedding without phones. Although there are many variations of an unplugged wedding and it is ultimately up to the couple, this type of wedding typically means guests can’t have their phones and there aren’t any pictures being taken or uploaded to social media.

Part of the reason this is gaining popularity is because all guests have cell phones and usually take their own pictures during someone else’s ceremony, which may disrupt the wedding. Then those same photos can be uploaded to social media before the couple gets a chance to upload their own pictures. Some couples hire a professional photographer for unplugged weddings so that they can get the best pictures possible without other guests trying to do the same thing.

An unplugged wedding also allows the wedding guests to be present and interact with each other more, rather than spending time on their phones or taking pictures.

Whatever you choose, make sure to notify your guests beforehand so no one is caught off guard.

Updated Garter and Bouquet Toss

You probably know the traditional garter and bouquet toss that happens after a wedding ceremony. The groom tosses the garter while the bride tosses the bouquet and it is said that whoever catches it will have good luck or they will be the next to be married.

Over time couples have been breaking away from this tradition or putting their own spin on it. For example, instead of throwing bouquets, some brides decide to get bouquets for important people in their life who helped inspire them either as a person or as a couple.

Another spin on the tradition is presenting the bouquet to another couple at the wedding who is soon to get married, like a passing of the torch.
